Every session in the period is ranked by traded value and the top 20 are counted. Ranking within each day (rather than against a fixed rupee figure) keeps the count comparable between quiet and heavy market days. Debentures, mutual funds and promoter shares are excluded from the ranking.
Which NEPSE stocks the money keeps coming back to
Every Nepali market portal publishes the day's top turnover list. It is useful, and it is also forgettable — a single large block trade can put an otherwise quiet scrip at the top for one session. What actually matters is persistence: which shares keep reappearing in that list, session after session.
Over the current 61-session window (2026-07-16 to 2026-10-16), RSML leads with 59 days inside the daily top 20. 13 stocks have made the list on at least half of all trading sessions — the shares carrying the market's sustained attention.
How the count is built
For each trading session in the window, every scrip is ranked by that day's traded value and the top N are recorded. A stock's score is simply how many of those daily lists it appeared on. Because the ranking happens within each session, a quiet Rs 2 arab day and a heavy Rs 10 arab day each contribute exactly N slots — so the count means “how often was this one of the market's main events”, not “how often did it clear an arbitrary rupee bar”.
Set the daily list to Top 10 for the strictest read — only the very biggest names each day. Top 50 casts wider and surfaces mid-caps that consistently trade well without ever leading the market. The Hit Rate column expresses the same figure as a percentage of sessions, which is what to compare when you switch between a 1-month and a 1-year window.
Reading turnover alongside price
Turnover on its own is direction-blind — it counts money changing hands, not who won. That is why the Period % column sits next to the day count. Persistent top-list presence with a strong positive period return generally reflects accumulation into a rising trend. The same presence with a flat or falling price is churn or distribution: large holders finding exits. And a stock whose Last Seen date is weeks old had its moment already — the money has moved on.

Frequently asked questions
What is turnover on NEPSE?
Turnover is the total rupee value of a stock traded in a session — the number of shares traded multiplied by the prices they traded at. NEPSE publishes the day's top turnover list after every session, and it is the standard measure of where the market's money actually went that day.
How is this different from the daily top turnover list?
A daily list is a snapshot: one big block trade can push a stock to the top for a single day and it disappears the next. This scanner counts DAYS instead. It ranks every session in your chosen period and counts how often each stock finished inside the daily top 10, 20 or 50. A stock with 30 top-20 days over three months has sustained institutional interest; one with a single top-20 day had one busy afternoon.
What does Best Rank mean?
Best Rank is the highest position the stock reached on any single day inside the period. A best rank of 1 means it was the single most-traded scrip on the whole market on at least one day. It separates stocks that occasionally lead the market from those that merely hover at the bottom of the list.
Why does it rank per day instead of using a rupee threshold?
Because NEPSE's total daily turnover swings enormously — a quiet day may be Rs 2 arab and a hot day Rs 10 arab. A fixed rupee cut-off would flag dozens of stocks on heavy days and almost none on quiet days. Ranking within each session gives every day exactly the same number of slots, so the count means the same thing across the whole period.
How should I use the Period % column alongside the day count?
Together they tell you what the money was doing. Heavy turnover with a strongly positive period return usually reflects accumulation and a run-up already underway. Heavy turnover with a flat or negative return often means distribution or churn — big volume changing hands without the price going anywhere. Neither is a signal on its own, but the combination is far more informative than turnover alone.
Is this scanner free?
Yes — free for everyone, no sign-in required. It covers all traded NEPSE companies and updates after each trading session's daily sync.
