Cash, bonus and book-close
A cash dividend is a per-share payout in NPR, quoted as a percentage of face value (Rs 100). A 25% cash dividend pays Rs 25 per share. A bonus share is a stock dividend — additional shares issued free to existing holders, also quoted as a percentage. The book-close date is the cut-off date — anyone holding the security on that date is eligible. T+2 settlement means you must buy at least two trading days before book close to be eligible.
Proposed vs Distributed
A proposed dividend has been announced by the board but not yet credited. It moves to distributed once the company actually issues the bonus shares or transfers the cash to your bank-linked CDSC account. Mutual funds and large-cap banks usually distribute within 30 days of book close.
